My Story

Present time…

A little about me, my name is Heather RJ Fletcher. I began my career in retail and jumped into the world of television, radio, and internet commercial production as a Line Producer. I worked for a significant agency until I brunt out. During a period of exploration, I found the world of product design, which combined all my experiences. As a product designer, the continued study of consumer culture and innovation drives me to originate universal visual stories through design.

How it all started…

My roots as a designer began in illustration and a deep understanding of color. Since 2013 I’ve studied book arts (bookmaking, letterpress, papermaking, calligraphy, etc.) and specialize in decorative handmade papers. My area of expertise is marbling. In 2019, authored a book titled, Making Marbled Paper, which is available at your favorite bookstore.

Studies…

I graduated from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, with a BA in Studio Arts & Coursitiy. I’ve completed some graduate studies at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). I have a certificate in UX Design from Springboard.

In my free time…

When I am not working, I teach classes on marbling and other surface design techniques at Minnesota Center for Book ArtsTextile Center Minnesota, and around the world. Or wandering through all the National Parks with my husband and rescue dog Scooter.

There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.
